BONE-AFIDE win the RPS Philip Jones Brass Prize 2021

We are extremely excited and honoured to have won the RPS Philip Jones Brass Prize this year! The support provided by the Royal Philharmonic Society and Ursula Jones will help the group massively, especially in developing some brand-new commissions, arrangements and recording projects that we are really looking forward to sharing. More information on these fronts will follow in the coming months.

The audition took place in May 2021, and comprised ten minutes of playing followed by a short chat about our future plans and ambitions. We performed music from three works that we really enjoy playing: Debussy’s Trois Chansons, Strauss’s 3 Mӓnnerchӧre and Apon’s 1st Quartet.

We feel very fortunate to have been offered this opportunity, both to further develop our ideas and also to be associated with the RPS. This prize will bring us one step closer to achieving our long-held goals: to rewrite the trombone quartet genre, showcase it to a wide and diverse audience and defy any stereotypes surrounding the instrument.
