Christmas with Bone-afide!

We are delighted to have our first album coming out on the 12th of November 2021! ‘Christmas with Bone-afide’ came about as a result of the success of our Christmas videos in 2020. We love Christmas and Sam Every’s arrangements, so we decided to put this together to create a festive extravaganza.

In July 2020 we spent an intensive (but fun) week in Helensburgh, Scotland, recording the album in the beautiful Rhu and Shannon Church of Scotland, that overlooks the Gareloch. We travelled to Scotland in 2 teams - Izzi and I (Angus) drove up and Chris and Merin hopped on the plane. With us on our journey to Scotland was 7 trombones, a euphonium, 8 microphones and around 1000 mouthpieces(!!!), which made for an interesting but cosy car journey. We brought our friend, Sam Dye, of Beastly Studios who recorded the whole album for us and we all stayed at my family home! My mum and dad kindly fed and helped us with whatever we needed (this included a lot of beer!). My dad, John Butt OBE, also took steps away from his usual baroque lifestyle to join us in organ on some fun, lighter Christmas carol arrangements and I showed off my tremendous musical skills of playing the sleigh bells in one of the tracks! This process was a lovely experience as we could combine focused work on our recording with the rest of the day being spent in the beautiful west coast of Scotland where we went hillwalking, fishing, golfing and eating out.

We would like to thank Greg Black Mouthpieces from the bottom of our hearts for their support on this project. Without them this simply would not have be possible. We hope you enjoy the album as much as we enjoyed recording it and we can’t wait to create more albums in the future!
